Not Insurance
CareXchange is not an insurance company. Unlike health insurance—where premiums are paid and legal responsibility for risk is transferred—health care sharing is a voluntary arrangement where members assist each other with medical expenses out of mutual compassion, not legal obligation. Participation is voluntary with no guarantee of sharing. Each member remains legally responsible for their medical bills even if not shared.

Participation
There are no premiums, policies, or contracts. Participants retain control of their money and send their monthly share amount which is directed to other participants with qualified medical needs. Participation continues as long as Sharing Guidelines are fulfilled and new participants can join anytime.

Medical Needs and Sharing
Participants submit proof of medical and holistic expenses, which are reviewed according to Sharing Guidelines. Qualified needs are then shared among members.

Operations and Financial Integrity
Most shared amounts go directly to participant needs, though some are used to cover administrative costs. Finances are audited annually by an independent CPA firm to ensure transparency and accountability.

Disclaimer
CareXchange does not qualify as a “health care sharing ministry” under Section 5000A of the Internal Revenue Code because it was founded after 1999. This means participation in CareXchange programs does not qualify for an exemption from the individual mandate on IRS Form 8965. CareXchange is a recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit religious organization.
